Call for special issue contributions on 'Differentiated Policy Implementation in the EU'

The proposed special issue in West European Politics seeks to explore patterns, reasons and consequences of differentiated policy implementation in the European Union (EU).

The editors welcome theoretically informed and empirically based contributions that fit one or more of the following themes: 

  1. Conceptualization and empirical analysis of differentiated EU policy implementation 
  2. Empirical varieties of differentiated EU policy implementation  
  3. Implications of differentiated implementation for EU problem-solving.  
  4. Relationship with Differentiated EU Integration.   

In addition, it is important that all special issue participants are able to submit first draft versions of their papers by 15 January, 2022 to ensure timely submission of the special issue.

Potential participants should submit a paper proposal or an elaborate abstract (max. 500 words) to Dr Asya Zhelyazkova before 31 October, 2021

The abstract must clearly outline the following of aspects: 

  • Relevance 
  • Research question 
  • Data and methods used 
  • Main (expected) findings (if already applicable) 
  • Relation to the topic of differentiated implementation and core contributions (see attached the proposal for special issue for more information)
